I’ve always longed for fuller lips, ever since Angelina Jolie hit our movie screens back in the 90s. But since I hit my 40s, I’ve watched my lips gradually shrivel away as my collagen levels have dropped. Top lip? What’s that?!
Aside from the fact that smaller lips lack the youthfulness of a fuller pout, my lips have been consistently dry, dehydrated, cracked, and peeling for several years, no matter how much lip butter I slather them with on an hourly basis. In short, my pout was nothing to shout about. But I was still scared to go down the injectables route – I’ve seen too many bad lip filler jobs in my time – and I’ve been put off even more now that figures for people having their lip filler removed have reached an all-time high.
So, when I heard about CurrentBody’s new LED Lip Perfector, I knew it was the gadget I needed to get my hands on pronto. I might be a massive fan and regular user of some of thebest LED face maskson the market, but the fact is they all have a big hole around the mouth (assumedly so you can drink through a straw while wearing one) so your pout never gets to reap the benefits of the collagen-boosting LED rays.
Thankfully, CurrentBody spotted this ‘gap’, and rectified it with the invention of the Lip Perfector, heralded as the world’s ‘first revolutionary anti-ageing LED device for youthful looking lips.’ But does it work? Well, there’s a reason why its included in our round-up of thebest skincare gadgets 2024…

CURRENTBODY SKIN LED LIP PERFECTOR REVIEW: DESIGN
Inside the box, you get the Lip Perfector device, a charging base and USB charging cord, a storage bag, an instruction manual, and a spare removable mouth guard for the device.
You could say the Lip Perfector looks a bit like a cross between an adult-sized dummy and a mushroom in shape and size. It has a shiny white hard plastic shell on the outside with a button to turn it on and off, and a ring of light that flashes white to show its working. Turn it over, and you’ll see the LED lights arranged in the shape of a pair of lips, which glow red when the device is turned on, plus the removeable mouth guard made from clear flexible medical grade silicone, which you pop in your mouth like a dummy to keep the Lip Perfector in place.
The rather swanky charging base is impressive to look at. In fact, I’d describe it more as a display case for the Lip Perfector, because it’s rather large and not ideal for travel. Thankfully, when you pull the mouthguard off the device, you’ll also spot a USB port hiding beneath, which makes the Lip Perfector infinitely more packable when you’re on the go.

The CurrentBody Skin LED Lip Perfector promises the ultimate in lip plumping rejuvenation to soften feather, smile, and marionette lines and help you achieve a fuller, bouncier pout with more even-toned lips and less wrinkles. It does this using 56 individual LED (light-emitting diode) bulbs that emit four different LED wavelengths – amber (605nm), red (633nm), deep red (660nm) and near-infrared (830nm) – to penetrate the skin on and around the lips at different levels.
This helps to boost cell renewal, increase collagen production, and improve circulation and wound healing for better lip colour and texture, all of which are very welcome because the skin on and around our lips is thinner than the skin on our face and body, meaning it’s more vulnerable to collagen breakdown and premature ageing.
Combined, the Lip Perfector’s varying wavelengths provide a painless, non-invasive alternative to lip fillers that help to minimise the signs of ageing. That said, it’s also suitable and effective for those who have filler (once it has fully settled), although you should still check with your aesthetician to be sure.
For the full lip plumping results, CurrentBody advises that you wear the Lip Perfector for three minutes every day for eight weeks. CURRENTBODY SKIN LED LIP PERFECTOR REVIEW: PERFORMANCE
The CurrentBody Skin LED Lip Perfector does exactly what it says on the tin, because it helps your lips to become the absolute best version they can be without filler. If you’re after lips that reach the pillowy proportions of Angelina Jolie, then you’ll need to manage your expectations. But if you want your lips to look and feel fuller, plumper, smoother, less lined, lifted, and more youthful, this device is for you.
In the name of fairness - and to give you a real idea of the results you can expect - I used the Lip Perfector every single day for the full eight weeks that CurrentBody recommends, and it’s fair to say I am delighted with the results.
It’s incredibly quick and easy to use and is one of the few beauty gadgets I’ve tested that fits into my life without hassle. So long as your lips are clean, dry, and free from skincare products, SPF, and lip balms (which can block the LED wavelengths and hinder your results), you can simply pop it in and continue what you’re doing.
The Lip Perfector is called a wearable device, and it certainly is that. I often popped it in my mouth after cleansing while making my morning coffee, or internally repeating my affirmations for the day, and you can easily walk around and do chores or answer emails while wearing it (although you can’t take calls, for obvious reasons).

If you wear the Lip Perfector while sitting or standing, you will need to bite down on the mouth tray to keep it in place. I’ll admit this sensation - along with trying to hold something in my mouth for three straight minutes – did make me want to gag during the first week of use, but I quickly got used to it (top tip: wear it lying down so it rests against your lips if you find it uncomfortable). Despite the initial gagging thing, I persevered with the Lip Perfector because I saw results within days, and those results only continued to get better and better as the weeks progressed.
Looking at my results after eight weeks (please ignore the random dog hair stuck to my lip in the ‘before’ image – they get everywhere!), I think you can see a noticeable improvement in fullness. My lips are also in a far better condition now, rarely get dry or flaky, and feel comfortable as opposed to constantly sore.
I even think you can see that the corners of my mouth are no longer droopy – in fact, they’re almost upturned! – so it’s more than safe to say I will continue to use the CurrentBody Lip Perfector every day going forward to minimise the signs of ageing and give me the fuller, more youthful pout I’m after.
