As the plot we’ve tried to summarise here makes clear, though, this is an inescapably complicated setup for a series. Villeneuve’s movies had to simplify quite a lot to makeDunelegible on-screen, and it’ll be fascinating to see how a longer-form series approaches that same problem of obscure lore and exposition.
At least the success of those movies means,Dune: Prophecyshould have a fairly keen core audience ready when it arrives in a few weeks. It could very well help to reestablish HBO (and its platform Max) as thebest streaming servicefor prestige dramas, too.
