When it comes to thebest webcamson the market, Logitech is always likely to be in the conversation – and the C920 Pro HD is well worth a look if you’re after something that’s more affordable, not quite top of the range, yet still very capable in all the key areas that matter.
Not everyone wants to pay a lot for a webcam upgrade – and some of the most expensive can run well into three figures. As we’ll explain in this review, however, the Logitech C920 Pro HD hits a sweet spot when it comes to price versus the video quality and features you get in return.

The Logitech C920 Pro HD comes well packaged in a compact box, in which you get the webcam, a USB-A cable, and a bracket/tripod as one fixed whole. There’s no USB-C adapter included here, so if you only have USB-A ports on your laptop or desktop then you’re going to have to find an adapter of your own.
As webcams go, it’s not the most appealing we’ve ever seen – and it’s a little chunkier and more angular than some of the other models on the market. It’s flat and wide, but doesn’t weigh much, at 162g. The USB-A cable is a generous length, giving you 1.5 metres of wire to work with to position the webcam.

While it might not be particularly stylish looking, it’s certainly well built and put together – as you would expect from Logitech. The stand attached to the webcam lets you place it on a flat desk surface or attach it to a monitor or laptop lid, and there are a couple of extra folding parts that mean it’s always stable and secure when you’ve got it into position.

When the Logitech C920 Pro HD is in use, there’s a reassuring glow from two blue lights either side of the camera. But there’s no physical privacy shutter here – if you’re really paranoid about someone peering through your webcam when they shouldn’t be, you’ll have to unplug it or leave it face down when it’s not in use.
Audio and video performance isn’t flawless but is very good, with the video feed quality topping out at 1920 x 1080 (Full HD) at 30 frames per second – which you can lower to 720p (HD Ready) if you’re really struggling for internet bandwidth. The webcam handles low-light conditions reasonably well, while the auto-focus is nice and speedy and accurate as you move around.

Dive a little deeper into the included software, and you get an impressive amount of control – the auto-focus and auto-exposure options can be tweaked, there’s an anti-flicker setting if you need it, and you can play around with a variety of different filters for your feed – just like the old days of Instagram!
The Logitech C920 Pro HD certainly didn’t let us down on any of the video calls we tested it with, and the 78-degree field of view is more than enough for general video chatting. You can step away from your desk to some extent and still be seen and heard, which isn’t always the case when it comes to budget webcams.

People buy webcams for all kinds of reasons – work meetings, livestreaming on YouTube, attending online classes – and a lot of the time you don’t need the latest and greatest 4K resolution. As long as the image and sound from your webcam is crisp and clear you’ll be fine, and the Logitech C920 Pro HD definitely delivers in that regard.
If not, the Logitech C920 Pro HD is going to serve you well. It’s difficult to fault the built quality, the reliability, or the bundled software here. It also stands out in terms of its low pricing – the money you save on a webcam can be put towards something else that you’re looking to upgrade instead.

There are plenty of decent options out there if you’re looking for webcams that offer value for money: theAnker PowerConf C200, for example, is available for around the same price as this Logitech model and brings a slightly better 2K video resolution, an adjustable field of view, and has a physical privacy shutter too.
If you’re able to spend a little more, then theDell Webcam Prois a model worth getting on your shortlist. It has an appealing design, a 2K video resolution, and an integrated tripod mount in case you want it to stand it separately rather than having it on your laptop screen.
